Measurement Guide
Getting the perfect fit starts with accurate measurements. Use this guide to take your own measurements or ask a friend to help. Always use a flexible measuring tape and measure over fitted clothing or underwear for best results.
Whether you're ordering a custom African Bazin dress, a plus size lace gown, or a matching outfit for couples — here’s how to get the best fit.
General Tips
-
Keep the tape snug but not tight.
-
Make sure the tape is parallel to the floor (especially for bust, waist, and hips).
-
Stand naturally—don’t suck in or puff out.
-
Write down each measurement as you go.
Key Measurements
Bust
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust. Make sure it goes straight across your back and is not too tight.
Tip: Wear a well-fitting bra you would normally wear with the outfit.
Waist
Measure around the smallest part of your waist—usually about an inch above your belly button. This is your natural waistline.
Tip: If you bend to the side, the crease that forms is your natural waist.
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks. This is usually about 7–9 inches below your waist, depending on your body shape.
Tip: Stand with your feet together to get the most accurate measurement.
Shoulder Width
Measure from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, across the back.
Tip: Don’t curve the tape over the shoulders—measure in a straight line.
Arm Length (Sleeve)
Start at the edge of your shoulder and measure down to your wrist. Keep your arm slightly bent for comfort.
Bicep
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your upper arm.
Neck (Optional)
Wrap the tape around the base of your neck, where a collar would sit.
Dress Length (For Dresses or Tops)
Measure from the top of your shoulder (near the neck) down to where you want the dress or top to end.
Tip: Use this if you're ordering a custom length dress, tunic, or top.
For Skirts or Pants
Waist (Again)
Same as above—your natural waist.
Hip
Same as above—around the fullest part.
Skirt Length / Pant Length
Measure from your waist down to where you want the skirt or pants to end.
Tip: For floor-length, stand straight and barefoot.
